Glass production roots back to the Paleolithic Age. According to finding it sprung somewhere between Western Asia, Crete and Egypt. The production processes were well maintained secret in order to prevent competition. During the Hellenistic period new production techniques were developed, such as compaction of multi-coloured layers of glass, a novelty that gave a new boost to the glass market. Around the 1st century at the area of Palestine and Syria the blowing method was discovered and was dispersed to the rest of the world by the Romans.
More recently many production centres appeared in Europe, like Murano, Bohemia and other, gaining vast reputation due to the special and innovative techniques they presented. Glass restoration usually involves putting broken segments together and completing missing parts, but also proper colouration whre needed.
