Altamira
Limestone cave in the province of Santander, in northern Spain, where in 1879 discovered the first representations of animals of the upper Paleolithic period. The famous naturalist representation of bison on the roof of the cave is now considered a sample of late Magdalinias art (about 10,000 BC), which falls in the last phase of the hunting cultures of the Ice Age in Western Europe. These painting representations, which in some cases cover each other, have done in earth colors (especially black and red) directly onto the porous rock. (Cave art).
