Action Painting
Term first used by the American art critic, C. Rosenberg. It is refered to the widely prevalent in the 1950's and 1960's method of painting, by which the paint drips, poured or thrown onto the canvas. The Frenchmen use the term “Tachism” (tache = stain) to describe similar techniques. The works of Jackson Pollock are the clearest examples of this kind.
