Hydira, Lesvos 1852 - Athens 1932
A painter who began his studies at the School of Fine Arts in Athens with N. Lytras as a teacher in art and L. Drosi in sculpture. He continued his studies at the Academy of Munich and worked for a few years in Munich where he became very successful. In 1900, he was invited to return to Greece in order to organize the national Art Gallery and in 1904 he became professor of oil painting at the School of Fine Arts. All thematic areas interested him but his most significant works are scenes of child's life and portraits.
