Special Information for the Artist
Constantinople 1852 - 1909
An artist of traditional tendencies and academic types who was greatly influenced by the artistic creations of his teacher Jean Leon Gerome. He studied painting in Paris under Gerome and adopted not only his themes but his figurative language that does not differ from ethography. His works are always distinguished by a superficial sentimentality and a preference for a romantic atmosphere. In his most characteristic works he combines his belief in a realistic description with a supplement of unusual themes, as well as a preference for heavy academic colours with a generally superficial atmosphere of the whole.
