George Vakalo, real name George Vakalopoulos was an artist who excelled especially in set design and painting.
Born in Istanbul, in 1902 and died, in 1991.
In 1919, he went to Paris to study painting and stage design and influenced by surrealism. From France will leave only after the invasion of the Nazis (1940). In 1944, he married the poet and art critic, Helen Vakalo.
In Greece, worked with the biggest theaters of Greece as a set designer and costume, while he took part in many exhibitions. He has worked successfully with the illustrations.
In 1957-58, he founded (with his wife and P. Tetsis and F. Frantzeskaki) the first school in Greece, of decorative and applied arts, which called Vakalo. There he will teach, until 1978, decoration and set design .
