Executed in 1988.

This work is unique.

Memos Makris’ evocative and arresting Cacti, the only non-figurative sculptural compositions by this great artist and untamed spirit, are, despite their naturalistic verve, eloquent depictions of the human form and poignant comments on the human condition. As noted by Benaki Museum director A. Delivorrias, “the sense of solitude emanating from Makris’ Cacti is effectively counterbalanced by their harmonious distortions and thorny armature, their reaching towards imaginary light sources and impressively strong survival instinct.” 1
